Aug. 14- Point of view lesson- rewrite a fairytale from another character's P.O.V.
Share stories with class
Handout- identify as many Greek Gods as you can (no homework)
Aug. 27: Epic Poem/journey- lengthy narrative poem usually about heroic deeds and events that are significant to the culture of the poet. Assignment: (handout provided) draft of what it has taken to be your own personal hero. List 5-8 events for a life map and what they mean to you. Be prepared to work with them next class, as you will be creating your map and writing your personal poem.
Aug. 29: We read the first story out of The Odyssey and worked on our projects. We also wrote down 10 vocabulary words- QUIZ is on 9/5
Requirements for final draft (DUE: 8/31)
1. Your life map - 5-8 stops (does not have to be overly personal-it's whatever you want)
- The lesson learned (briefly explained)
- Color, neat, unlined paper
2. Your Poem - A poem that explains who you are. Who you want to be or What it will take to achieve your goals.
- Neatly written or typed
-Pay attention to spelling and grammar
YOU MUST USE 5 of your Odyssey Vocab. words
Sept. 7: SSR- Check reading logs- remember you need to have at least 350 pages read by the end of the quarter
Odyssey- Small groups read the next 4 stories aloud, write a timeline and create a comic (requirements are on the board) These comics will be shared with the class to check for reading comprehension- Whatever is misunderstood, will be cleared up in class.
Sept 11: SSR- Keep up with your reading log
Grammar- Prepositional Phrase practice (2 handouts to help)
Work on comics- We will have 15 min. next class to work on these. So make sure y'all are on the right track; see if anyone needs to work on it during enrichment and home (assign parts)
Oct. 10: Reading Logs are due! Focus on your Travel brochure! Persuasive lang., correct grammar & mechanics, Knowledge of text.
Oct. 16: Travel Brochures are due!
